Extensive Reading and its Impact on Malaysian Undergraduate ESL/EFL Learners’ Reading Proficiency and Reading Motivation

English language reading skills are important for tertiary students. In Malaysia, students required to master the academic their studies. However, Malaysian students’ proficiency in is often found below par, which attributed poor and habits, as well a lack of motivation read. The authors believe that extensive (ER) should be used complement intensive practiced education reading. It learn from past studies potentials problems with ER, so teachers researchers alike can better approach use ER teaching second (ESL) This article reports on systematic literature review 32 programmes, particularly its impact ESL motivation, were published between 2003 2019 obtained through established research databases. results there positive impacts reading, rate comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, importance goal setting monitoring ensure success suggest implications teacher practitioners, future course developers plan how would valuable addition respective programmes also provide them ideas designing own unique cater needs.
